Over 50 years of age it is recommended for both genders if having osteoporosis risk factors e.g.: genetic predisposition, tall, slim built, taking medications causing osteoporosis, type 1 diabetes, liver or kidney disease, hyperthyroidism. It can be performed in all age-groups if a bone disease of metabolic origin is suspected.
As a screening for women over 65 years of age. With a frequency of 1, 2 or 3 years (depending on the general status and risk factors). Every year to measure the efficacy of anti-osteoporotic treatment.
The bone density measurement does not have any biologically harmful effects.
A referral is needed for the examination. Referral of any specialist is accepted for the examination, except one from a general practitioner.
Without referral, bone density examination can be performed in our private practice, according to our price list.
The examination does not have any side-effects.
The examination is performed in supine position. For the evaluation of the spine, the patient is asked to unfold the metal bucket of the trousers. It is not necessary to turn sideways even during evaluation of the hip. The examination requires staying still.
The patient can eat or drink before the examination. After X-ray contrast or isotope examination, 1-2 days have to pass by before performing bone density measurement, because they significantly reduce assessability of the examination.
5-10 minutes on average.
It does not come with any pain.
The patient will receive the medical report right after the examination.
